For the Mince Sauce

  • Raw Meat Mince1 lb ground beef (minced beef) - (20% fat), For best flavor, use freshly ground beef.
  • Ripe Yellow Onion On A White Background1 large Onion - Finely chopped.
  • Garlic2 cloves Garlic - Minced.
  • Spoon With Tomato Paste Isolated On White Background1 tbsp Tomato paste
  • Bowl Of Beef Bone Stock1 cup beef stock (beef broth or beef bouillon) - Preferably homemade or high-quality store-bought.
  • Tomatoes1 cup tomatoes - Chopped
  • Worcestershire Sauce1 tsp Worcestershire sauce
  • Thyme Seasoning Spice In Bowl On White Background1 tsp Dried thyme
  • Wooden Bowl Of Salt1 tsp Salt
  • Ground Black Pepper Pile, Paths, Top½ tsp ground black pepper

For the Yorkshire Puddings

  • Pile Of Flour Isolated On White Background1 cup all purpose flour (plain flour Australia and UK)
  • Chicken Egg4 large Eggs
  •  
    1 cup Whole milk
  • Wooden Bowl Of Salt½ tsp Salt
  •  
    2 tbsp Beef drippings - Or vegetable oil

For the Cheese Sauce

  • Unsalted Butter2 tbsp Unsalted butter
  • Pile Of Flour Isolated On White Background2 tbsp all purpose flour (plain flour Australia and UK)
  •  
    1.5 cups Whole milk
  • Cheddar Cheese Block, Paths1 cup Cheddar cheese - Grated
  • Heap Of Ground Nutmeg And Whole Nutmeg Seeds½ tsp Ground nutmeg

Instructions
 

  • Preheat the oven to 425°F (220°C) to prepare for the Yorkshire puddings.
  • To make the beef filling, heat a large frying pan over medium heat. Add the onion and sauté until softened, about 5 minutes.
  • Add the minced garlic and cook for another minute until fragrant. Stir in the ground beef and cook until browned.
  • Mix in the tomato paste, chopped tomatoes, Worcestershire sauce, thyme, salt, and pepper. Pour in the beef stock and let simmer for 25 minutes until thickened.
  • For the Yorkshire puddings, whisk together flour, eggs, milk, and salt until smooth. Heat a muffin tin with beef drippings for 5 minutes, then pour the batter evenly. Bake for 20 minutes until puffed and golden.
  • For the cheese sauce, melt butter in a saucepan over medium heat. Stir in flour and cook for 1 minute, then whisk in milk. Add grated cheese and nutmeg, stirring until melted and smooth.
  • To assemble, layer Yorkshire puddings with beef filling and cheese sauce in a baking dish. Repeat layers and top with extra cheese. Bake at 375°F (190°C) for 15-20 minutes until golden and bubbling.
