These Beef Patties (well, they are flat meatballs) are so delicious, and they stretch your beef to go further by adding a few extra bits. If you prefer the pure beef approach, swap with these bad boys. Brussels Sprouts are one of my favourites. And I insist: If you’ve hated them so far, it is most likely due to bland recipes. Done the right way; they will grow on you. This recipe generates eight big patties that will also be popular as next days lunch.

Glorious Beef Patties

Serves: 4 people
Cooking time: 30 minutes
Level: Novice

Ingredients

  • Meat Ingredients
  • 600 grams of minced beef
  • 2 eggs
  • 1 cup of roughly chopped parsley
  • 1 cup of bread crumbs
  • 1 cup of grated carrot
  • 1/2 cup of finely diced onions
  • 1/2 cup of cottage cheese or grated cheese
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh dill, finely cut
  • Salt and pepper
  • Potatoes Ingredients
  • 6 small potatoes, cut into very thin slices
  • Salt
  • Olive oil
  • Rosemary
  • Mushrooms Ingredients
  • Olive oil
  • 200 grams of mushrooms finely sliced
  • Salt, pepper
  • 1/2 cup of lite cream
  • 1 tablespoon of chives, finely cut
  • Brussels Sprouts Ingredients
  • 2 slices of chicken bacon, diced
  • 300 grams of Brussels sprouts, cut in half
  • 1 tablespoon of fresh thyme, cut or 1 teaspoon dried
  • Salt
  • 1/4 cup of lite cream

Instructions

  1. Mix all patty ingredients in a large bowl and put them in the fridge until used.
  2. Pre-heat oven to 250 degrees Celsius.
  3. Spread potato slices in a lightly greased oven tray or pan and lightly brush tops (I use spray).
  4. Sprinkle with salt and put in the oven for about 15 minutes; add rosemary sprigs in the last 5 minutes.
  5. Put bacon bits in a large saucepan, let them brown a bit (no need to add any oil) and add the Brussels sprouts, 1/4 water and the cream, bring to the boil and let simmer until they are soft to your liking, make sure you check from time to time, they burn easily, add a bit of water if needed.
  6. Season with salt and pepper.
  7. Form patties and brown in a frying pan on both sides.
  8. Transfer to an oven dish and also put in the oven for about 6 minutes
  9. In the same pan, add mushrooms and leave them untouched for about 1 minute to let them brown.
  10. Add olive oil and stir for about 1 minute.
  11. Add cream and chives and bring to a boil; let boil on high heat until liquid is reduced to a nice creamy consistency, stirring occasionally.
  12. Arrange potatoes, patties, mushrooms and Brussels sprouts on plates and serve; there will be enough for seconds.
