Souzoukakia is an excellent recipe for kids (and adults) as an alternative to the usual spaghetti bolognese. It can be served with pasta or anything else that might take your fancy!

I love serving this Souzoukakia when I want a tasty, quick dish on those cold nights. It’s become a comfort food that feels like home as it reminds me of my childhood and children in general.

Meat Sausage Ingredients

  • Raw Meat Mince800 grams ground beef (minced beef)
  • Fine Breadcrumbs, Also Breading Or Crispies In Wooden Bowl70 grams dried breadcrumbs - stale
  • Ripe Yellow Onion On A White Background1 medium onion - finely chopped
  • Garlic2 cloves garlic - crushed
  • Thyme Herb2 tablespoons thyme - chopped
  • Oregano (Origanum Vulgare) Leaves2 tablespoons oregano - chopped
  • Ground Cumin½ teaspoon ground cumin
  • Chicken Egg1 medium egg - lightly beaten
  •  
    1 teaspoon Sals
  • Ground Black Pepper Pile, Paths, Top1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Glass Bowl Of Olive Oil Isolated On White Background2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Fresh Mint Leaves2 tablespoons mint - chopped

Tomato Sauce Ingredients

  • Glass Bowl Of Olive Oil Isolated On White Background2 tablespoons olive oil
  • Ripe Yellow Onion On A White Background1 medium onion - finely chopped
  • Garlic2 cloves garlic - crushed
  • Red Wine125 ml red wine - dry
  • Tomatoes850 grams tomato
  • Spoon With Tomato Paste Isolated On White Background80 ml tomato paste
  • Bowl Of Fresh Chicken Broth250 ml chicken stock (chicken broth or chicken bouillon)
  • Oregano (Origanum Vulgare) Leaves2 tablespoons oregano - chopped
  • Bowl Of Sugar2 tablespoons sugar
  • Heap Of Ground Cinnamon And Cassia Cinnamon Sticks1 pinch ground cinnamon
  • Wooden Bowl Of Salt1 teaspoon salt
  • Ground Black Pepper Pile, Paths, Top1 teaspoon ground black pepper
  • Parsley On White Background1 tablespoon parsley - chopped

Instructions
 

  • Combine the mince, breadcrumbs, onion, garlic, thyme, cumin, oregano and egg in a bowl and add salt and pepper to taste; mix well. Roll 2-level tablespoons of mixture into a sausage shape, and repeat with the remaining mince mixture.
  • Heat oil in a pan, add sausages in batches, cook, turn, until well browned, then drain on absorbent paper.
  • Place sausages in a pan with tomato sauce, simmer, covered for about 10 minutes or until cooked through. Sprinkle with mint before serving.
  • Heat oil in a pan for the tomato sauce, add onion and garlic and cook, stirring until onion is soft. Add your wine, and allow it to simmer uncovered until reduced by half. Stir in un-drained crushed tomatoes and remaining ingredients with salt and pepper to taste; simmer uncovered for about 10 minutes or until sauce is thickened.
  • Top with chopped parsley.
