Ingredients
 
 

Savory Scrolls Base

  • Pile Of Flour Isolated On White Background2 cups all purpose flour (plain flour Australia and UK) - plus extra for dusting
  • Baking Powder, Chemical Leavening Agent In A Wooden Bowl2 teaspoons baking powder
  • Wooden Bowl Of Salt½ teaspoon salt
  • Fresh Butter Piecesâ…“ cup butter - cold and diced
  • Decanter Of Milk¾ cup milk

Filling

  • Glass Bowl Of Olive Oil Isolated On White Background1 tablespoon olive oil
  • Ripe Yellow Onion On A White Background1 small onion - finely chopped
  • Garlic2 cloves garlic - minced
  • Raw Meat Mince500 grams ground beef (minced beef) - grass-fed preferred
  • Worcestershire Sauce1 tablespoon Worcestershire sauce
  • Spoon With Tomato Paste Isolated On White Background½ cup tomato paste
  • Cheddar Cheese Block, Paths1 cup cheddar cheese - grated

Topping

  • Decanter Of Milk1 tablespoon milk - for brushing
  • Sesame Seed1 tablespoon sesame seeds - optional

Instructions
 

  • Preheat your oven to 200°C (390°F) and line a baking tray with parchment paper.
  • In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the flour, baking powder, and salt. Add the diced butter and rub it into the flour mixture using your fingertips until it resembles coarse breadcrumbs.
  • Gradually stir in the milk to form a soft dough. Transfer the dough onto a floured surface and knead briefly until smooth. Roll out the dough into a rectangle about 1 cm (0.4 inches) thick.
  • For the filling, heat olive oil in a pan over medium heat. Add the onion and garlic, sautéing until fragrant and translucent. Increase the heat, add the minced beef, and cook until browned.
  • Stir in Worcestershire sauce and tomato paste. Cook for another 5 minutes, seasoning with salt and pepper to taste. Allow to cool slightly before spreading evenly over the dough.
  • Sprinkle the grated cheese over the meat mixture. Starting from the long edge, roll the dough tightly into a log. Cut into 8 equal pieces and place on the prepared tray.
  • Brush each scroll with milk and sprinkle with sesame seeds if using. Bake for 20-25 minutes or until golden brown and cooked through. Serve warm.

Notes

For a twist, try adding a sprinkle of oregano or chili flakes to the filling for extra flavor. Alternatively, swap the minced beef for plant-based mince for a vegetarian option.
