Minced Pork and Watercress Sausage Rolls
A delightful twist on a classic, these Minced Pork and Watercress Sausage Rolls bring together savory pork and peppery watercress in a flaky pastry, inspired by British culinary traditions.
Ingredients
500 grams ground pork (minced pork) - Choose organic or free-range for best flavor- 1 bunch watercress - Roughly chopped
1 tablespoon Dijon mustard
1 tablespoon honey
1 teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon ground black pepper- 500 grams puff pastry - Pre-rolled, chilled, not frozen
1 large egg - Lightly beaten for egg wash
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (392°F).
- In a large bowl, mix the minced pork, chopped watercress, Dijon mustard, honey, salt, and black pepper until evenly combined.
- Roll out the puff pastry on a floured surface to ensure it's about 3mm thick. Cut into two equal rectangles.
- Divide the pork mixture in half and shape each half into a long sausage down the center of each pastry rectangle.
- Brush the edges of the pastry with a little beaten egg, then fold over the meat filling to enclose it, pressing gently to seal.
- Place the rolls seam side down on a baking sheet and brush the tops with the remaining egg wash.
- Bake in the preheated oven for about 25 minutes, or until the pastry is golden brown and crispy.
- Allow to cool slightly before slicing each roll into 3 pieces.
Notes
For added depth, consider adding a pinch of nutmeg to the pork mixture. Substitute watercress with any other peppery green like arugula if unavailable.
