Minced Lamb and Mint Sausage Rolls
Inspired by the rolling hills and rustic charm of the English countryside, these Minced Lamb and Mint Sausage Rolls are a modern twist on a beloved British classic. Embracing the rich, earthy flavors of lamb, complemented by fresh mint, they offer a delightful bite-sized indulgence perfect for any gathering.
Ingredients
500 grams ground lamb (minced lamb) - Preferably grass-fed for better flavor
1 cup mint - Fresh leaves, finely chopped
1 medium onion - Finely chopped
2 cloves garlic - Minced
1 teaspoon cumin
1 teaspoon ground coriander
1 teaspoon salt - Add more to taste
½ teaspoon ground black pepper - Freshly ground- 1 sheet puff pastry - Thawed if frozen
1 large egg - Beaten for glazing
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 200°C (390°F).
- In a large bowl, combine minced lamb, mint, onion, garlic, cumin, coriander, salt, and pepper. Mix until well incorporated.
- Unroll the puff pastry sheet on a lightly floured surface. Place a strip of the lamb mixture along one side of the pastry, leaving a border of about 2cm (0.8 inches) on one edge.
- Brush the edge with beaten egg, then roll the pastry over the meat, pressing the edges to seal. Slice the long roll into smaller sausage rolls, approximately 5cm (2 inches) wide.
- Place the rolls on a baking sheet lined with parchment paper. Brush the tops with beaten egg for a glossy finish.
- Bake in the preheated oven for 20-25 minutes, or until golden brown and the meat is cooked through.
Notes
For a twist, consider adding a tablespoon of Dijon mustard to the lamb mix for an extra layer of flavor.
